TGStat: platform tools and features

TGStat is a service for Telegram channel analytics. It helps track subscriber growth, engagement, mentions, and publication effectiveness. It can be used to efficiently analyze the channels of potential partners to select the most suitable platforms for promotion. The tool helps reduce the risk of budget drain and increases the effectiveness of advertising campaigns.

How to find the right channel?

To analyze a specific channel, simply use the search bar located at the top of the page: you need to enter the link or name of the Telegram channel you are interested in.

To search for thematic Telegram channels, you can use the premium section "Post search".

The channel search works even without the premium mode, however, without a service subscription, it is not possible to use search filters for date and negative keywords.

How to analyze data in TGStat?

After selecting the channel you are interested in, you need to go inside the card and click the "Statistics" button — this provides access to key metrics.

It is important to remember: сhannel evaluation must be based on understanding the context, not just the numbers. Any sharp spike or drop in metrics requires an explanation. Superficial notation of changes without analyzing the causes is largely ineffective.

It should also be noted that TGStat separately counts views for each image within a single post, which may affect the perception of reach — it is essential to pay attention to this during analysis.

The platform offers several sections for detailed analytics.

"Summary" section

This section is a dashboard with the main metrics of the Telegram channel. It is designed for a quick overview of the resource's current state. Within the "Summary," various graphs and key indicators are available, helping to form a general idea of the audience's dynamics and quality.

Key channel metrics

  • Subscribers. This indicator reflects the total audience size and helps assess the channel's growth dynamics.

○ Steady growth suggests stable and well-executed work with content and promotion. 

○ A sharp spike may indicate possible boosting or a large-scale advertising campaign.

○ A slight decline is a normal phenomenon that does not cause serious concern. 

○A sharp audience outflow requires attention: possible causes include the consequences of fake followers, an unsuccessful format change, or a decline in content quality.

  • Subscriptions/Unsubscriptions per 24 hours. Sharp fluctuations in this section are an important indicator. If a large number of people unsubscribed in one day, it is worth checking if an unsuccessful publication caused the reaction. If a spike in subscriptions is observed, advertising was likely placed on that day. 
  • Citation Index (CI). An indicator that reflects how often the channel's content is mentioned in other Telegram channels. A high value suggests virality and the popularity of the publications. Useful for assessing the channel's authority and influence within the information space.
  • Average reach per post. Allows you to understand how many people, on average, see each post — the higher the value, the greater the audience engagement. 
  • Average advertising reach per post. Reflects the number of views within the channel itself, excluding reposts. Useful for an objective assessment of content placement effectiveness directly on the selected platform.
  • Channel age. Comparing channels with similar metrics but different lifespans helps determine the approximate growth rate. This indicator helps set realistic expectations for promotion.
  • Posts. This section contains a list of all published posts.
  • ERR (Engagement Rate by Reach). A metric reflecting subscriber engagement.

ERR = (Average reach per post / Subscriber count) × 100%

The final figure shows what percentage of the audience actually reads the posts.

"Subscribers" section

This block allows for a more detailed tracking of the channel's audience changes over time. Particular attention should be paid to sharp spikes and drops — such anomalies often indicate important events, for example:

  • growth in subscriber count may point to a successful ad integration or a viral effect of publications;
  • audience decline often indicates a negative reaction to specific content, a format change, or an unsuccessful post topic.

Analyzing the subscriber graphs of several competitors from the same niche helps to identify the average audience growth rate for specific ranges. For example, channels with an audience of 10,000 to 25,000 subscribers may show an average growth of about 1.2% per day. This data can be used to select promising channels that do not yet meet the current filters for reach or audience but demonstrate good potential. 

"Citation index" section

The Citation Index (CI) is a key indicator of content virality. It shows how actively the channel's materials are being spread across Telegram. The top of the page additionally specifies:

By mention type

  • Individual mentions are the most valuable. They are directed exclusively at one channel, indicating a deliberate effort to draw attention to it. As a rule, such mentions are accompanied by a high conversion rate to clicks and subscriptions.
  • Mentions in selections are less significant. A channel may be included in a list simply "for quantity" without a real focus on its content. Nevertheless, mass inclusion in selections can also suggest growing interest in the resource.

By size of source channels

Mentions from large Telegram channels carry more weight. The larger the source's audience, the higher the probability that the publication will bring a significant increase in reach and new subscribers.

By topic of source channels

Analyzing the topics of the channels where mentions occurred allows you to infer advertising activity or collaborations.

For example, if a series of mentions is observed from channels in categories like "18+", "Sports," "Entertainment," etc., this may indicate a mass purchase of advertising as part of an audience expansion campaign. Such activity is a sign that the channel is actively developing.

By geography

Mentions by country is a situationally useful tool. It shows which countries most often share links to the channel.

This could be a result of ad placements, collaborations with foreign authors, or simply a sign that the channel's content is of interest to an international audience. 

"Citation" section

At the beginning of the section, a diagram is presented that allows for a quick assessment of the analyzed channel's connections with other platforms:

  • the left side of the diagram displays the channels that most frequently mention the analyzed resource;
  • the right side shows the channels most frequently mentioned by the analyzed channel itself.

This information helps understand where advertising integrations might have been placed, which channels participate in mutual collaborations, and how information connections are built within the topic.

Based on this data, it is possible to:

  • identify potential traffic sources;
  • evaluate the activity and intentionality of the advertising strategy;
  • find other relevant channels working with a similar audience — which is especially useful for planning a strategy or placing advertisements.

"Posts reach" section

This section includes three subsections:


Assuming a stable number of published posts, this allows to identify the days of the week when the audience interacts most actively with the channel.

"View analysis" section

The key information in this section is the hourly dynamics of post views. Based on this, it is possible to:

  • determine the optimal time for publishing. For example, if a post gains more than 35% of its views in the first hour, this can be considered a successful publication time;
  • identify potential boosting. For instance, if a post receives 80% of all views within a single hour (not necessarily the first), this can be suspicious. It is important to evaluate the regularity of such spikes and draw the appropriate conclusions.

"Advertising efficiency" section

This section displays publications that contain mentions of third-party channels. The focus should be on two key metrics that allow for an objective assessment of the ad posts' performance:

  • views: this indicator reflects how actively users interacted with the publication;
  • subscriber growth: shows how much the number of subscribers to the advertised channel increased during the post's lifecycle. This is the main indicator of placement effectiveness.

"Attracting subscribers" section

This allows you to assess how effectively a channel attracts traffic and converts it into new subscribers.

The following data is displayed:

  • the number of times the channel was mentioned over the month;
  • the total monthly reach of these mentions;
  • subscriber growth over the same period.

Depending on the task, it is important to analyze the ratio between the number of mentions and:

  • reach — to understand the scale of the information wave surrounding the channel;
  • subscriber growth — to assess the effectiveness of these mentions in attracting a new audience.

"Top posts" section

Previously, the platform lacked the ability to generate a list of top publications, which caused some inconvenience. Now, TGStat offers the possibility not only to track the most viewed posts but also to create rankings by reposts, comments, and reactions.

Analyzing the top publications allows you to identify the topics and formats that the audience likes most. These findings should be scaled and the results tracked for further optimization of the content strategy.

"Posts schedule" section

This tool is relevant for analyzing audience activity. It can also be useful if you need to see the times and dates when a successful competitor publishes posts.
